    The Institute of Road Transport was established in 1976 under the Control of Government of Tamil Nadu and has been registered as a society under the Indian Societies Registration Act 1860. 

  • IRT Engineering College

    The Institute Of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT) was established in the year 1984. It is run by Department of State Transport, Government of TamilNadu. It provides a congenial atmosphere for Technical Education. The Institute has excellent infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories, library and highly qualified faculty members. 

  • Govt. Erode Medical College

    Govt. Erode Medical College is estabilished to train medical students through a primary health care approach with special emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention, early detection, diagnosis and management of diseases including rehabilitation and social integration of transport workers, their families and rural population.

Board Of Directors

IRT’s Board of Directors are elected from IRT’s General Committee who are representatives of the local communities in which they operate.

There are currently seventeen members on the Board of Directors, including a Chair. The role of the Board of Directors is to oversee the functioning of the corporations and institutions to ensure it operates in line with the Mission and Values of the organization.

 Institute of Road Transport

The primary object of the institute is the instruction and dissemination of useful knowledge for the development of road transport. Its subsidiary objects are to promote and provide for the technology oriented education pertaining to road transport, to conduct operational and scientific research related to road transport and to impart training and education to all categories of staff and officers of STUs.  Driver Training

Driver Training Wing at Gummidipundi & Trichy

The Institute of Road Transport had set up a Driver Training Wing at Gummidipundi in the year 1979 with an aim to impart Driver Training on scientific lines to produce safe and efficient drivers with certain minimum standards of age, educational qualifications, physical and medical fitness with an aptitude in driving of Heavy Transport Vehicles. 

Light Motor Vehicle Training :The Institute of Road Transport is imparting Training Course in Light Motor Vehicle and Two Wheeler Training at Taramani, Chennai and Trichy.

Heavy Vehicle Training:The Heavy Vehicle Driver Training Course is also conducted at 16 other places.
