About IRT
The Institute of Road Transport (IRT) was established in 1976 under the Control of Government of Tamil Nadu and has been registered as a society under the Indian Societies Registration Act 1860. It has completed 30 years of service to the State Transport Corporations.The prime objective of IRT is to conduct research studies on the various issues relating to Road Transport sector with a view to improve the performance of bus transportation by updating and adopting the latest developments that are taking place around the world. The aim of the Institute is primarily to disseminate knowledge on various aspects of technology developments and transport management to the officers and supervisory staff of State Transport Undertakings in Tamil Nadu by organising training courses, seminars, workshops and circulation of journals. Another major activity of this Institute of Road Transport is undertaking applied research on issues pertaining to road transport. Besides it does quality monitoring by conducting tests on random samples of spare parts sent by the State Transport Undertakings in Tamil Nadu. It also promotes and provides educational institutions set up under its aegis. Though the Institute of Road Transport is under the control of Government of Tamil Nadu, it neither receives any funding assistance from Government by way of budget support nor it receives any grants from the Government.
